Food holidays are our favorite type of holiday because we get to put a Heirloom twist on the ordinary. We’ve been anxiously waiting to make our own special bite for National Trail Mix day! Check out two DIY ways to make a mix, bite or “granola bar” that guests will love.
Ingredients:
- Milk chocolate chips (we went with the organic Whole Foods brand)
- Dried cranberries
- Pepitas
- Almonds (we opted for thinly sliced)
- Marshmallows
- Farms market figs (you deserve a little sweetness)
First, gather your favorite ingredients and organize them. We put them in these mini jars because they define fall snack holders to us.
Since we’re Heirloom and we love to support all things #MadeinDC we decided to add some local farmers market figs to our recipe.
Now that you have your figs, go ahead and melt your desired amount of chocolate on the stove or in the microwave (either work). Slice those babies in half (if they aren’t already), and give em’ a little dip.
Add your favorite trail mix components (enough is NEVER enough).
Why stop there? We decided to also put a twist on the standard trail mix bar with a little green apple base. Go ahead and cut the apple into small bar-like slices and repeat all steps: dip, drizzle and repeat!
National Trail Mix day is all about celebrating the perfect seasonal snack best eaten outdoors or on the go. Here at Heirloom, we brought the outdoors in with a little taste of Fall and figs (mini adirondack chairs included).
We hope you enjoyed this tasty Heirloom twist on a classic Fall snack. Look for more inspiration from the Heirloom team here. See you again soon. Cheers!
